MVT Air Services

 This Oral and Practical course is for applicants that are about to accomplish their written tests or have accomplished all written FAA testing requirements and are ready to take their O&P. Instruction and review of both oral questions and practical projects will be given during this course. (This is not a timed course as the length is dependent upon applicant experience and understanding of given information).

Day Of Examination
The F.A.A. requires the written test results to be in the applicant’s possession before an Oral and Practical examination may be given. Therefore, in order to take an Oral and Practical examination with us, we would like to schedule a pre-interview with documentation that can be in person/over the phone or zoom etc.

You must bring your written score reports and your airmen certificate and/or rating application 8610-2 x2 the day of oral and practical testing. Your F.A.A. inspector should have signed and given you back two copies of the 8610-2 form, both bearing original signatures or digitally signed. 

Your your convenience, MVT Air will test all day or mornings, afternoons and weekends.

 The A&P mechanics course is for applicants who meet FAR 65.71-65.77. Under these regulations, you must have a certain type of mechanical experience before the F.A.A. will allow you to take the F.A.A. written exams.

• The required experience for the powerplant mechanic rating is a minimum of 18 months working with tools and equipment on any type of aircraft engine.
• The required experience for the airframe mechanic rating is a minimum of 18 months working with tools and equipment on any type of airframe.
• If you want both ratings, and your experience was a combination of airframe and powerplant, then you need a total of 30 months experience (not 36).
• If you are in doubt about your experience, it is best to discuss it with your F.A.A. FSDO (Flight Standards District Office) maintenance inspector nearest you.

There are four requirements to obtain a mechanic’s certification:

• Experience
• Written exams
• Oral test
• Practical test

Obtaining Your Authorization

To accomplish the MVT Air prep course as a mechanic student, you must first meet the F.A.A. experience requirements. The purpose of this is to be sure the F.A.A. will permit you to take the written exam after you finish the course.

There are four (4) ways of proving your experience to the F.A.A. Any of these four ways will be considered as proof, step 5 is the final process:

1. Have a completion certificate from a civilian F.A.A. approved mechanic school. To obtain this type certificate, you must have attended a mechanic school full time and have course completion certificates/diplomas.
2. Have a military discharge record (DD-214) showing that you have worked on aircraft as a mechanic for the required number of months and training records.
3. Have a “mechanic’s experience letter” signed by your shop superintendent, maintenance officer or licensed mechanic under whom you have worked.
4. Having completed the above steps, you now should go to your local F.A.A. FSDO office, the area that I am in is FSDO # 09 Birmingham AL down to the coast past north Florida to Panama City and west to Mississippi, and complete step no. (5). This can be arranged by MVTAIR to be completed in our local area, (most of the time).
5. 8610-2 Forms must have original signatures from the FAA Inspector and yourself. Can be accomplished with digital signatures if the inspector allows it, depends on circumstances. Note please do not sign until in front of the FAA inspector and it must be the most current 8610-2 or the FAA will not sign.

Enrollment/Scheduling

Please schedule as soon as possible as we do not have set class dates. 

Classroom Time 

The average time is 5 to 6 hours daily.

Applicants’ knowledge/progression is based on their own capabilities.

What to Bring 

The only items necessary to take the A&P courses, are items mentioned before and the two 8610-2 forms from the F.A.A., valid identification of a driver’s license (non – U.S. students must also bring valid passport) and full tuition.

This course is designed for FAA rated A&P mechanics having to RETEST with the FAA.

F.A.A. Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for an Inspection Authorization rating, the F.A.A. requires the applicant to:

• Have held their A&P rating for a 3-year period before applying for testing, and have been actively engaged in aircraft maintenance the 2-year period prior to applying for testing.
• Have a fixed base of operations.
• Have available to them, the equipment, facilities and inspection data necessary to properly inspect airframes, powerplants, propellers, or any other related part or appliances.

Our 4-day IA course will allow you to have an in-depth knowledge of FAA publications and complete confidence with your new IA responsibilities.

Inspection Authorization course is a four-day course.

What to Bring

The only items needed to attend our IA course (besides the original, signed and endorsed 8610-I form for FAA testing) is a small hand calculator, proof of residential address, and a picture I.D. Non – U.S. residents must possess a valid passport for identification.

MVT Air offers two 8 hour courses

1. Course 1 covers Title 14 of the CFRs (FARs).
2. Course 2 covers Type Certificate Data Sheets & Airworthiness Directives.

It is not necessary to bring any materials with you. We provide each attendee all required course materials.

In order to take this class, you must have an original signed 8610-1 form signed (application for Inspection Authorization and one valid form of identification). Foreign students must have a passport and a second form of valid identification.
